En resumen

Ana Matey (Madrid, 1978) es una reconocida artista multidisciplinar de la escena

madrileña dentro del ámbito del arte de acción. Sus especialidades abarcan la

performance, el vídeo y la fotografía. El cuerpo es su principal materia de trabajo, a

través del cual explora los conceptos de tiempo e identidad.

Biografía

A lo largo de su carrera, Ana Matey ha participado en festivales internacionales

como “I-Fabrik”, en Maastricht; “Verda Utopio”, en Normandía;  "Emergencia" en Lisboa, "Preavis de desoder urbain" en Marsella y próximamente "Interajcke" en Polonia. Y nacionales

como "Accion!MAD", "EBENT", "MEM", "Arrt d accció", "Poeticas por una vida", etc.

Asimismo, ha presentado su trabajo en exposiciones colectivas e individuales

en países como España, Alemania, Italia, Portugal, Francia, Holanda, Inglaterra y México.

Su trabajo ha sido seleccionado y expuesto en Museos, galerías y espacios alternativos como el Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Conde Duque en Madrid, el Museo de la Universidad de Alicante, el Museo de Albacete, Off Limits, Kubiko, Menosuno, Espora, entre otros.

Su pasión por las técnicas fotográficas más primitivas le ha valido su presencia en numerosas ponencias y

talleres. Desde el  2008, organiza y comisaría “ARTe en acciON”(ARTÓN), un ciclo de

sesiones mensuales dedicadas al cultivo de la performance en la ciudad de Madrid.

De manera paralela a su creación trabaja como fotógrafa freelance. Entre el 2005 y 2009 trabaja y gestiona el estudio fotográfico y espacio multidisciplinar ELCarromato en el Barrio de las Letras en Madrid.

Ha participado en ferias como EntreFotos 07´ y 08´, Tentaciones en la Casa de Vacas de El Retiro y Juvenalia con la Fundación de Temas de Arte.

Sus trabajos han sido publicados en revistas, periódicos y libros: Triángulo del Arte, FV, Tentaciones, La Fotografía, SuperFoto, UrbanCatarsis, Calle20, Arteyaparte, Experimenta, La voz de Asturias, La Nueva España, Arte Fotográfico, Staf Magazine, 10x10+1...

"Mi trabajo son pequeñas investigaciones en torno a preocupaciones personales sobre el tiempo y la identidad en nuestra sociedad. Generalmente lanzo mis propias incógnitas sobre nuestra manera de vivir. Para ello empleo todos los medios que tengo a mi alcance, el primero mi cuerpo, el que siempre me acompaña, a través del cual siento y pienso el mundo...con el y a través de él inicio la investigación diaria de la vida.

Propuesta a desarrollar

"IP: Identity Project" es un work in progress en el que empleo el dibujos, la palabra y la acción. En el verano del 2009 surge la palabra y casi al mismo tiempo o en paralelo nacen los dibujos, y en el otoño durante el festival EBENT se inicia la acción performática. Desde entonces ha ido creciendo, tranformándose, sumándose nuevas palabras, dibujos y acciones. Es importante en este trabajo la confrontación con el otro durante la acción. Esta relación se da de distinta manera en cada una de las performances. Hasta el momento han sido tres creándose tres relaciones diferentes y en todas ellas latente la idea de renacer. Durante la acción las frases y los dibujos sufren una transformación y es entonces cuando la obra queda concluida.

Para la acción en el Kulturpalast emplearé texto traducido al alemán y dibujos en papel de fumar, durante la acción estos papeles se encuentran en un bloque de hielo de unos 4k aproximadamente. Será con mi aliento y con el de los demás que iremos derritiendo el hielo y desvelando poco a poco la identidad oculta que contiene.

Ana Matey (Madrid, 1978) is a renowned multi-platform artist in Madrid’s performance art scene. Her specialties span over performance, video and photography. Her body is her main work material, with which she explores the concepts of time and identity. Her performance and art works has travel from Spain to Portugal, France, Ingland, Italy,Germany, Holland and Mexico. Her work has being shown at festivals, museums, alternative spaces and galleries. She has been invited to talks and conference at museums, galeries
and universities at Spain, México and Portugal. Since 2001 her work has been publish at different speciallized magazine, books and newspapers: NÚA,La Fotografia, El País, 10x10+1, FV,
Tentaciones, among others. At 2006 she cofound ElCarromato a multidisciplinary art space and photo studio. At 2008 found ARTóN a monthly performance art event in Madrid city.

STATEMENT
My work is made up of investigations in personal worries on the subjects of time and identity in our society. I construct poetic imagery through body resistance, irony, intensity and silence. I am interested in revealing or searching for the latent image of what surrounds us. For this purpose I use all available tools, the first being my own body, the one that follows me at all times and through which I think and feel the world.
Connected to my body, the central axis of my actions is time. I search for an empty space where time slows down, for according to my experience the mind is incapable of generating it’s own thoughts when confronted with fast and continuous stimulus. I invite others to observe, to pause, and this exercise transports us to a mental state out of the ordinary.
It is a space where a new mindframe towards what surrounds us can grow.. For all these reasons, my work tends to be durational.

PROJECT: IP04
“IP: Identity Project” is a work-in-progress in which I use drawing, word and action.
In the summer of 2009 the word is born and almost simultaneously, the drawings. In the autumn, the performance act arrives during EBENT festival. It has grown since then,transformed, collecting new words, drawings and actions. In this work the confrontation
with the other is important. This relationship is different in each performance. Up to the moment there have been three, giving way to three different relations, all of them carrying the idea of rebirth. During the action, the sentences and drawings suffer a
transformation and it’s then when the work becomes complete.
For the action at Kulturpalast I will use text translated to german and drawings on smoking paper. During the action these papers are held inside a four-kilo block of ice.
It is my breath and that of others that will melt the ice and show, slowly, the identity it contains.
